Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime – Precisely the essence of “Amroha Say”.
This is an initiative of bringing together the talents of Amroha (U.P.) to mentor the less skilled (specially the economically challenged) by applying the concept of ‘Each One Teach One’.
Amroha Say’ was born in 2016 as a desperate attempt to provide a healthier alternative to female bidi makers. With time, single mothers, victim of domestic violence, girls passionate for learning and even women from well-off families also joined the bandwagon.
Today the pink brigade comprises numerous Silai Champs, Crochet & Knitting Champs, Kadhaai Champs (hand embroidery experts) and Daliya Champs (basket weavers) creating all types of bags and home décor items.
Amroha Say is a paradigm for turning Waste to Wealth through Women Empowerment. A dual-pronged strategy to address two social issues simultaneously.
The modus operandi is: Fabric scrap /cuttings collected from factories are salvaged and sorted for Reuse. Learners sew the bits and pieces of scrap to make it a cloth. Sewing Champs turn it into a Reusable Recycled product. Other Champs camouflage the sewing joints through handwork to make them look attractive and appealing.
With the Covid-19 crisis, Team Amroha Say has also stood up for noble cause of manufacturing handmade masks from fresh cotton fabric on a No-Profit-No-Loss basis.
Pink hands have come together working on Green project dreaming to come out with flying colours. The journey has just begun with many more miles to run.
